Incentives and Search Engine Results

Someone was complaining recently on Twitter that Google's search engine results are getting worse.

As I wrote almost a year ago, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Google search results are getting worse. Google is an advertising company, even if they claim its vision is to organize the world's information.

For public companies, the market usually reacts to short-term revenue and profit growth. Producing better search results is a long-term game.
