Understanding others

How our bias to negativity can hinder us from understanding others. (From Caroline Fleck’s book Validation.):

The negativity bias is like a little shoulder devil whose sole mission in life is to draw our attention toward what’s wrong, bad, or threatening in our environment. (…) To validate someone, you must ignore what’s wrong with their perspective—however obvious it may be—and instead focus on what’s valid. The key to thriving and not just surviving in your relationships is to ignore the fangs and focus first on the mane.

Sounds obvious, but I don’t think it’s easy.
