The short life of services
Omnivore is shutting down. (This is another story in the saga Will you be able to access that file 5 years from now?.)
Jackson Harper and Hongbo Wu created the Omnivore app in 2021. It was a free, open-source, read-it-later app with many nice features. In October 2024, the team announced that they were joining ElevenLabs. Omnivore will shut down at the end of November.
Among other nice features, Omnivore provided an email address that you could use to subscribe to your favorite newsletters. Instead of newsletters cluttering your inbox, Omnivore took care of organizing the content, which you could read at your leisure.
There are many options for replacing Omnivore. From receiving newsletters directly in your inbox to using paid services like Readwise to writing a custom script to convert the newsletters to an RSS feed and use a newsreader. However, whatever you choose, you should think of a future-proof solution that doesn't involve changing the registered email from my subscriptions if you decide or need to migrate apps again.
In my case, I've create a new email address under my mail domain, something like newsletters81234143@…, which I've used to resubscribe to the newsletters. I've configured the new email it to forward everything to the mail provided by Feedbin, the read-it-later service I'm testing. If I don't like Feedbin, I can forward the emails elsewhere without resubscribing.
