Forgiveness is not something we do for others

One quote from from Kevin Kelly’s Excellent Advice for Living: Wisdom I Wish I’d Known Earlier:

When you forgive others they may not notice but you will heal. Forgiveness is not something we do for others; it is a gift to ourselves.

Another quote about the same topic:

Forgiveness is accepting the apology you will never get.

These two ideas are very difficult to explain to someone wounded and outraged. That doesn’t make them less true. So read them and make them yours when you don’t need them.
