The Road to Mastery

If you improve by 1% a year on a skill, it will take you seventy years[^seventy-years] to double on that skill. If you improve by 1% every day, that's around 37% a year. Difficult, but not impossible.

Improving, instead of coasting along, is both about persistence and working smart. Working hard by itself doesn't guarantee progress.

You can't improve at 1% a day at everything. What skills are you trying to improve every day? Choose wisely.

The same thinking about compounding applies to business, by the way. What is your company improving by 1% every day? That's the moat you are building. If you are only trying to improve your sales numbers, that's what everybody is trying to do.

[^seventy-years]: (1.01)^70 = 2
