How to recover quickly when your habits break down.

Habits are at the core of many things we do, and probably at the core of our identity. Even if we are not aware of it, most of the things we do each day we do because of habits.

There are many books about habits. I specially like James Clear’s Atomic Habits because of its practical and no-nonsense point of view.

Although the terminology is not popular today, good habits are called virtues, and bad habits vices.

Three ideas about how to recover quickly when your habits break down, from James Clear’s Atomic Habits:

  • Never miss twice.
  • “Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit.”
  • “The problem is thinking that if you can’t do something perfect, then you shouldn’t do it at all.”
